Ah, wine shows. They can be a little frustrating at times but you have to take good and bad results with a grain of salt. But when we win a good one, I’m happy to blow the trumpet.
So, yes, we have had some success.
Our 2010 Mt Canobolas Collection Shiraz (the wine currently known as Shiraz Viognier) won the Best Shiraz Trophy at the Orange Regional Wine Show. We are really pleased to win a red wine trophy. Most of the recent trophy success has been with whites and we are very proud of our reds. So it’s good to get a bit of recognition there. This wine won’t be released until next year. It’s our reserve Shiraz and we are more pleased with every release so keep an eye out for it in 2012.
Then in the same week the 2010 Mt Canobolas Collection Chardonnay picked up a gold medal and made the NSW Top 40 at the NSW Wine Awards. This is great because the NSW Wine Awards is the one show that really works hard at drumming up a bit of publicity. What is more, if you live in Sydney (or even if you are just visiting Sydney), you have a great opportunity to taste all 40 wines in the NSW Top 40 – cellar door style. There are winemaker tours and lots of delicious cheese. The big tasting is taking place on Thursday 20. Go to the NSW Wine Industry website for details – www.nswwine.com.au
We hope to you there. I’ll be there, pouring, taking winemaker tours, answering questions. Should be a lot of fun. Definitely a unique opportunity to taste some great wines.
